Period or no period - take the jab! Fertility or infertility- take the jab!

The fourth and biggest phase of COVID-19 vaccination in India is set to commence on May 01, 2021, with registrations soon opening up. The drive will allow a sizable adult population above the age of 18 to get vaccinated at a time when the country is facing the worst crisis since the pandemic began.

One such recent claim has actually pushed women into raising concerns about getting a COVID-19 vaccine jab while they are in the middle of their menstrual cycle.

A social media post floating around mentions that menstruation "lowers" immunity for a woman, and hence, taking a vaccine, 5 days before, during or after your periods won't be safe and may not garner a sufficient response.

Against all such rumours, the truth is:

Vaccines are absolutely safe, period or no period.

Most importantly, COVID-19 vaccines have been found to be safe in all concerns, and there is no truth to the matter that the vaccines would be harmful to take during your period cycle.

COVID vaccine can safely be taken during periods. There is no data or study validating this claim. The vaccine is life-saving and should be taken as early as possible.

The next question is whether the jab affects fertility?

A lot of people are hesitant to take the jab and believe that the vaccine could negatively impact fertility and reproduction for both men and women. Some also believe that the vaccine agents harm a protein present in the placenta, making many sceptical and delay getting the shots. This, again, is completely untrue. Neither do vaccines contain any harmful extract, and neither is present any clinical evidence to support the matter.

Thus, everyone above 18 must get vaccinated and should pay no heed to such unscientific rumours.
