Menstruation - A taboo of the Past!
Menstruation has been a word regarded more as a taboo in our society. Not until very recently women couldn’t talk about their periods to anyone but their mothers. The situation, however, is changing now.
Recent studies show that more and more women have started talking about their periods openly with their family members. While earlier they were restrained from even entering the kitchen during their periods, today, the families are more concerned about their well being than such customs.
With the change in perception at the family levels, changes have been observed gradually on a higher level too. While earlier the advertisements on menstrual products were made using hidden messages, today they are more vocal and straight. Several organizations have taken the initiative of granting periodic leave to their female staff. While in several others, the females can openly discuss their menses problems and ask for sick leave.
Topics on menstrual health and hygiene have gradually found a way to the educational institutes as well. Many schools organize special meetings and programs that educate the students and sometimes even their parents about periodic health and hygiene. The students include not only the girls, but also the boys believing they need to be educated about this eminent and natural process of a female body.
This opening up about menses and other female problems is indeed a great breakthrough for female health across society emphasizing that menstruation is a taboo of the past!
